Neil Lupin/RedfernsCream drummer Ginger Baker continues to battle health issues after being diagnosed in early 2016 with a serious heart condition. Baker’s daughter Leda reported in a blog post on her dad’s official website last month, “After open heart surgery and a bad fall Ginger is miraculously recovering very well.”
Leda revealed that Baker “called the day after his surgery to say he was OK,” adding that while it was “a rather disoriented and unintelligible conversation,” her father “was at least awake and aware.”
Baker’s daughter also explained that Ginger’s fall had “resulted in swollen legs and feet,” which he’d planned to have his doctor treat.
Leda also pointed out that while her father “is recovering, any performances in the near future seem over ambitious.”
Baker had scheduled a spring U.K. and U.S. tour with his latest group, Air Force 3, but canceled the dates after getting the news about his heart issues. In late March, Ginger gave an update about his health on his official Facebook page, explaining that his doctor had two possible procedures planned and was optimistic about the drummer being able to eventually play live again.
