Axl Rose makes his first official appearance as an AC/DC member in a new video invitation for the band’s show in Lisbon, Portugal, this Saturday, May 7. In the clip, posted on the Everything Is New Facebook page, the Guns N’ Roses singer is seen sitting alongside founding AC/DC guitarist Angus Young and the group’s longtime bassist Cliff Williams.
In the brief video, Young declares, “Lisbon, here we come. You know, we’re really excited to be here in Portugal. We’re here to give you a great rock show, so we hope to see you all there.”
Axl then says, “Absolutely. We’re very excited to be there,” to which Williams adds, “And we’ll see you on Saturday.”
In March, AC/DC postponed the final 10 U.S. shows of its Rock or Bust trek after longtime singer Brian Johnson announced that he was struggling with hearing issues and would be forced to stop touring. A few weeks later, the band revealed that it would complete the European tour dates, as well as its soon-to-be-rescheduled U.S. shows, with the Guns N’ Roses singer taking over frontman duties from Johnson.
The European trek is mapped out through a June 12 concert in Arhus, Denmark. Axl is then scheduled to resume Guns N’ Roses’ “Not in This Lifetime” Tour in Detroit.
Meanwhile, AC/DC has posted a new band photo featuring Rose on its official Facebook page. In addition, the band has posted a message about the resumption of its tour on its official website that includes testimonials from Alice Cooper, former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde and ex-Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx all commenting about how they think Axl will fit in well with AC/DC.
Cooper says, “You know, his voice is absolutely perfect for that band.”
Wylde maintains, “I couldn’t think of a better choice than Axl Rose. Axl’s such a huge fan. So, yeah, Axl’s gonna be beyond honored, and I think it’s gonna be awesome.”
Lastly, Sixx notes, “I think Axl’s got the right voice for that band.”
