MJ Kim/MPL Communications Ltd.Paul McCartney recently invited his Instagram fans to submit questions focusing on three topics: recording, his hometown of Liverpool and performing live. McCartney then took time to answer some of those queries backstage at recent events in London and Liverpool, and now a video of his responses has been posted on his official YouTube channel.

Among the questions Sir Paul answered was, “Which song on his upcoming album, Egypt Station, is his favorite?”

“I like all the songs on the new album,” he said, “but if I had to choose one…[it’s] ‘I Don’t Know’!”

He also revealed that the oddest instrument used on the new record was the harpsichord, which he said was “used a lot.”

Speaking about instruments, Sir Paul was asked whether he preferred playing the guitar or the piano, and he said, “I like ’em both for different reasons. [But] if I had to only choose one, probably…the guitar, because I do more songs on there.”

In addition, McCartney explained why he was barefoot on The Beatles‘ famous Abbey Road cover photo.

“[I]t was a very hot day. And I happened to be wearing sandals…So, I just kicked them off just because it was so hot, and went across [the road] barefoot,” he recalled. “There was no special meaning behind it.”

McCartney also revealed the concerts he felt were the most important in his career.

“I think every time I played for the Queen has been important, because she’s important,” he said. “And I think the opening of the [2012] Olympic Games [in London] was pretty important.”

In other news, the specific dates that McCartney will be playing his previously announced headlining sets at the 2018 Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas, have been confirmed: October 5 and October 12.
