A new feature film about the recording of The Rolling Stones‘ acclaimed 1972 double album Exile on Main St. is expected to begin production this winter. According to Deadline, the movie will be based on the 2006 Robert Greenfield book Exile on Main Street: A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones, and will be directed by Andy Goddard, who was behind the lens for several episodes of PBS’ Downton Abbey.
The flick will focus on the summer the band’s members spent working on the album in 1971 at a villa that guitarist Keith Richards rented in Nellcôte, France. The screenplay was written by Brandon and Philip Murphy. According to Deadline, the production currently is searching for actors to portray Richards and Mick Jagger.
Goddard’s credits also include the 2016 film A Kind of Murder and an episode of the Netflix superhero series Daredevil.
