Brian Wilson Says “Pet Sounds” Tour Features “Letter Perfect” Performance of the Album

Credit: Mark LondonThis Sunday, Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson kicks off the main North American portion of his 2016 solo tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of his old band’s acclaimed and influential album, Pet Sounds. Wilson says fans coming out to the shows will be treated to an authentic recreation of the sonically complex record.

“We approximate the album almost letter perfect,” Wilson tells ABC Radio. “It sounds just like the album itself.” He adds, “My band members are very good musicians.”

At each show, Brian and his band play the album in its entirety and also perform other classic Beach Boys tunes. To help augment his group, Wilson has two special guests joining him at the concerts — fellow founding Beach Boy Al Jardine and one-time Beach Boys singer Blondie Chaplin.

Wilson’s Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour gets underway in Brooklyn, New York, and will stop in more than 50 North American cities by the time it winds down on October 15 in Sacramento, California.

Meanwhile, today sees the release of a special 50th anniversary reissue of Pet Sounds, which will be available in various configurations, including an expansive Collector’s Edition featuring four CDs and a Blu-ray Audio disc.

The CDs included in the Collectors Edition feature remastered mono and stereo versions of the album, as well as alternate versions and mixes of tunes, outtakes, demos, studio session highlights, isolated tracks, promotional radio spots and previously unreleased live performances. The Blu-ray Audio disc includes 5.1 surround sound, stereo and mono mixes of the album.

Among the classic tunes featured on Pet Sounds are “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Sloop John B” and “God Only Knows,” the latter of which Wilson says is his favorite song on the album.
