Twisted Sister will be the focus of the first of a four-DVD Metal Meltdown series of concert performances by four legendary ’80s-era hair bands. Metal Meltdown: Twisted Sister — Live at the Hard Rock Casino Las Vegas will be issued July 22.
The Twisted Sister DVD will feature their May 30, 2015, concert at the Joint at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Casino — a show dedicated to the memory of drummer A.J. Pero, who died suddenly two months earlier. The band dedicated the remainder of their 2015 shows to Pero as well, and announced that 2016 would be their 40th and final year of live performances. This concert marked the debut of former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy as Pero’s fill-in.
The disc, including both DVD and Blu-ray discs and an audio CD, features the complete 90-minute concert, as well as Rockshow, a bonus documentary that takes fans through the band’s four-decade ride from Long Island bar band to stardom, with exclusive interviews and an ’80s photo gallery.
“The decision to continue performing all the summer shows in 2015, not to mention the concert that this performance celebrates, was in jeopardy over the days immediately following A.J.’s sudden death,” guitarist Jay Jay French said. “We needed time to re-group and re-focus. Everyone was great.”
He added, “In the end, I believe we did what A.J. would have wanted us to do, and Mike Portnoy was a very big part of that decision in both an emotional and artistic way. This performance captured herein just two months after A.J.’s death really was about our way to help memorialize the great A.J. Pero.”
Other bands filmed in Las Vegas to be part of the Metal Meltdown series were Extreme, Skid Row and Great White.
