Todd Rundgren to receive honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music

Credit: Danny O’ConnorTodd Rundgren is among the latest artists and music industry figures who will receive honorary doctorates from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.

The prolific singer/songwriter will be presented with his degree during the school’s spring 2017 commencement ceremony May 13 at Boston University. Rundgren also will serve as the commencement speaker.

Other honorees at the event include pop/R&B legend Lionel Richie, acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams, South Korean rock singer and producer Shin Joong Hyun and Recording Academy President Neil Portnow.

The honorees are being recognized for their achievements in music, and for their contribution to American culture. The night before the commencement, Berklee students will pay tribute this year’s honorees at a private concert.

Past recipients of Berklee honorary degrees include The Eagles, David Bowie, Jimmy Page, Steven Tyler, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Sting, Steely Dan‘s Donald Fagen, U2‘s The Edge, Phil Collins and Steve Winwood.
