The End Records/Automaton RecordsAfter the Sex Pistols’ initial breakup, drummer Paul Cook and guitarist Steve Jones formed the band The Professionals, which were together from 1979 to 1982 and released one official album, 1981’s I Didn’t See It Coming. Cook recently revived The Professionals with the group’s early bassist, Paul Myers, and a new singer/guitarist, Tom Spencer. Now they’ve recorded a new studio effort, What in the World, that’s due out October 27.
The new album also features Jones on three tracks, as well as other guest artists including Guns N’ Roses‘ Duff McKagan, The Clash‘s Mick Jones, Def Leppard‘s Phil Collen, The Cult‘s Billy Duffy, and Adam and the Ants‘ Marco Pirroni.
Among the record’s 10 tracks is “Going, Going, Gone,” a tribute to two late rock legends — David Bowie and Motorhead‘s Lemmy Kilmister — that features contributions from Steve Jones and Duffy. Jones and Duffy also appear on the lead track, “Good Man Down” — a lyric video for that track’s posted on The Professionals’ official YouTube channel.
What in the World will be available on CD, vinyl LP and as a digital download. The Professionals will celebrate the release of What in the World with a pair of U.K. concerts, October 27 in Wolverhampton and October 28 in London. The latter show will take place on the 40th anniversary of the release of the Sex Pistols’ landmark album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.
