Courtesy of Trafalgar ReleasingBlack Sabbath brought its legendary career to a close with a sold-out concert in its hometown of Birmingham, U.K., this past February 4. The new documentary The End of The End, which chronicles that show, will be screened this evening in more than 1,500 theaters across the world.
The film also covers the days leading up to Sabbath’s farewell gig, and features behind-the-scenes footage, special in-studio performances and interviews with founding band members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. The movie was directed by Dick Carruthers, whose credits include the rock docs Led Zeppelin: Celebration Day and The Who: Live at the Royal Albert Hall.

Black Sabbath’s February 4 show in Birmingham was the culmination of the band’s hugely successful farewell trek, The End Tour. The group’s lineup for the tour featured original members Osbourne, Iommi and Butler, plus drummer Tommy Clufetos. He replaced founding drummer Bill Ward, who had a falling out with his former band mates over financial matters.
A home video version of The End of The End eventually will be released later this year in various formats under the title The End, Live in Birmingham.
