Credit: Joseph Sinnott/WNETA star-studded cast of musicians, including Paul Simon, David Crosby and Jackson Browne, hit the stage of New York City’s Beacon Theatre this past January to help folk legend and famed political activist Joan Baez celebrate her 75th birthday. Now, a special titled Joan Baez 75th Birthday Celebration that features highlights from the concert is set to premiere on select PBS stations next month as part of the network’s long-running series Great Performances.

At the event, Baez performed a career-spanning set of songs both solo and with the various guest artists. In addition to Simon, Crosby and Browne, the lineup featured Judy Collins, Mavis Staples, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, David Bromberg, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Damien Rice and Richard Thompson.

The concert saw Baez teaming up with Simon for a rendition of his classic “The Boxer,” with Crosby for a cover of The Beatles‘ “Blackbird” and with Browne for a version of his tune “Before the Deluge.” Baez also duetted with Collins on Joan’s own “Diamond and Rust,” and was joined by Indigo Girls for a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.”

A two-CD/DVD set and a standalone DVD of the show will be released on June 10, and can be pre-ordered now at Amazon.com.
