Appleseed RecordingsNewly recorded tracks by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Morello and Donovan are among the 57 tunes featured on a new compilation celebrating the 21st anniversary of the folk label Appleseed Recordings that will be released on October 19.

Appleseed’s 21st Anniversary: Roots and Branches is a three-disc set features mainly tracks from the label’s archives, along with nine previously unreleased songs. Among the latter are Springsteen’s rendition of the late Pete Seeger‘s classic “If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song),” Morello’s cover of AC/DC‘s “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” and Donovan’s version of the traditional tune “Wild Mountain Thyme.”

According to a press release, Morello’s version of “Dirty Deeds” “reimagines” the 1976 track with mentions of U.S. foreign policy and “fake news.”

The compilation also includes Springsteen’s version of the spiritual “We Shall Overcome,” Morello’s take on Woody Guthrie‘s “This Land Is Your Land” and songs featuring Jackson Browne, Levon Helm, Bonnie Raitt, The ByrdsRoger McGuinn, Arlo Guthrie and Judy Collins.

The collection’s three discs are themed to correspond with the three philosophies to which Appleseed Recordings is devoted. Disc one is titled “Let the Truth Be Told,” disc two is called “The Wisdom Keepers” and disc three is titled “Keeping the Songs Alive.”
