History of Asia: Prog-Rock Supergroup Releasing Archival Live Album

1580

Rainman RecordsA new live album featuring a 1990 performance by the prog-rock supergroup Asia will be released on June 24 as the latest installment of the ongoing British Live Performance Series. The record, which documents a show in Nottingham, U.K., includes renditions of such memorable tunes as “Sole Survivor,” “Don’t Cry,” “Only Time Will Tell” and “Heat of the Moment.”

Asia was founded in 1982 by ex-King Crimson singer/bassist John Wetton; Emerson, Lake & Palmer drummer Carl Palmer; current Yes/former Buggles keyboardist Geoff Downes; and longtime Yes guitarst Steve Howe. The band’s lineup at the 1990 gig included three of the group’s four founding members — Wetton, Emerson and Downes — along with guitarist Pat Thrall.

Asia continues to record and perform together; its current lineup features Wetton, Emerson, Downes and guitarist Sam Coulson.

The British Live Performance Series was launched in September of last year and, to date, included the release of archival concert recordings by ex-Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, Glen Campbell, Go-Go’s singer Belinda Carlisle, Joe Jackson, Uriah Heep, The Buzzcocks and Ten Years After.
