Paul Simon is no stranger to the top of the U.K. album chart, and he now has added a fifth #1 record to his resume thanks to his latest studio effort, Stranger to Stranger.
The singer/songwriter’s previous chart-topper album on Britain’s Official Albums Chart was his 2015 compilation The Ultimate Collection, although his last new collection of original tunes to reach #1 was The Rhythm of the Saints back in 1990.
“I don’t know a recording artist who wouldn’t be elated to have a number one album,” Simon tells OfficialCharts.com of Stranger to Stranger. “A big thank you to everyone who thought enough of the music to go out and buy it. I hope it stands up to multiple listens.”
Released in the U.S. on June 3, Stranger to Stranger was co-produced by Simon and his longtime collaborator Roy Hallee, and finds Paul experimenting with an eclectic variety of sounds, including electronic dance music and Flamenco.
Meanwhile, an official video for “Wristband,” the first single from Stranger to Stranger, has just premiered on Simon’s official VEVO YouTube channel. The clip shows the 74-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and his backing band performing the tune in what appears to be a rehearsal studio.
Simon is in the middle of a U.S. tour leg in support of Stranger to Stranger. His next show takes place Saturday, June 11, in Kansas City, Missouri.
