InsideOut MusicOn his most recent tour, former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has been taking fans on a musical journey through his solo career, while also showcasing some classic tunes by his old band. Now, the virtuoso musician is set to release a multiple-disc collection titled The Total Experience Live in Liverpool that features audio and video from an October 2015 stop in Liverpool, U.K., during Hackett’s “Acolyte to Wolflight with Genesis Revisited” tour.
The Total Experience Live in Liverpool, which hits stores on June 24, is a two-CD/two-DVD set featuring live renditions of 23 songs. The concert is comprised of two sets, the first dedicated to Hackett’s solo work spanning from 1975’s Voyage of the Acolyte through 2015’s Wolflight, and the second boasting selections from Genesis’ 1970s catalog, including “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,” “The Musical Box” and “Firth of Fifth.”
One of the DVDs contains extra content, including a behind-the-scenes look at the Liverpool show, a documentary focusing on Hackett’s rehearsals for the tour, and promotional videos for three songs from Wolflight — the title track, “Corycian Fire” and “Love Song to a Vampire.”
Explaining why he chose to document his tour stop in Liverpool, Hackett explains, “This is an extraordinary city and the Philharmonic Hall is an extraordinary venue.” He adds, jokingly, “Besides, it’s not as if Liverpool is known for having any good music — there’s never been a good band from there. Ha!”
In addition to the four-disc version, The Total Experience Live in Liverpool will be available as a standalone Blu-ray and as a digital album.
