Simon & SchusterMany Bruce Springsteen fans apparently having been running out to buy the New Jersey rocker’s new memoir, Born to Run, as the book has debuted at #1 on The New York Times‘ Best Sellers list in the Hardcover Nonfiction category. Springsteen’s autobiography also is the best-selling book in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

The news about Born to Run comes just days after Bruce’s new compilation, Chapter and Verse, an audio companion to the book, bowed at #5 on the Billboard 200.

The Boss talks at length about the memoir in a new Rolling Stone cover story that’s been posted on the magazine’s website. In the book, Springsteen candidly discusses his father’s struggles with mental illness and his own battles with depression, and he tells the magazine that in sharing these revelations, “I felt that could be central to understanding where some of my music came from.”

Meanwhile, Springsteen also shares some details about his next album in the interview.

“It’s the record I wrote before [2012’s] Wrecking Ball but could not finish,” he reveals, “and in attempting to finish it, I wrote Wrecking Ball. So the roots of the record go back quite a ways.”

He adds, “Sometimes you have to wait for these puzzles to sort themselves out, and it can take years. I mean, I have a record that I’ve been working on that’s 20 years old.”
