Sib Hashian in 1977 (Ron Pownall/ Getty Images)Former Boston drummer Sib Hashian died Wednesday of an apparent heart attack during the Legends of Rock Cruise, and now his old band, and a variety of other rock artists, are paying tribute to the late musician.
The current Boston lineup posted a joint statement on its official website that reads, “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Sib Hashian who unexpectedly passed away [Wednesday]. Sib’s high energy drumming on the early BOSTON albums and tours leaves a legacy that will be remembered by millions.”
Ex-Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau, who was performing with Sib on the cruise when he collapsed, wrote on his Facebook page, “Sib was [one] in a million, never to be replaced. He will be greatly missed.”
Former Foreigner singer Lou Gramm, who’d been scheduled to perform on the Legends of Rock Cruise as well, tweeted, “So sorry to hear about [the] passing of Boston Drummer Sib Hashian. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family during this time.”
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton wrote on his Twitter feed, “Man, so sorry to hear about Sib Hashian’s passing. Really good guy and fine drummer as well. RIP Sib.”
Stryper‘s Michael Sweet, who sang with Boston from 2008 to 2011, noted in a Facebook post, “I never had the chance to play with Sib but I was a member of the band…that he helped create…God Bless you My friend and thank you for your incredible contribution to my musical journey and to the history of rock and roll.”
Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, whose longtime girlfriend is Hashian’s daughter Lauren, posted a lengthy tribute to Sib on his Instagram page in which he calls the late rocker his “second dad” and thanks him “for the many life lessons you’ve taught over the years.”
