Whole Lotta Live: Led Zeppelin may be planning streaming service for concert archives

Ian Dickson/RedfernsThere’s some legal movement afoot in the Led Zeppelin camp: The band’s biggest fan site reports that a streaming service is in the works that would provide fans with access to its legendary trove of concert recordings.

LedZepNews reports that lawyers for the band this week filed a U.S. trademark application for the name “The Led Zeppelin Experience,” for the purpose of “providing non-downloadable prerecorded music on-line via a global computer network.”

The band reportedly already holds the trademark for the name in the United Kingdom and Europe, but was denied in the States when they first filed, late last year. Zeppelin then hired a new, U.S.-based legal team and resubmitted the application with more specific information. The trademark also allows for the sale of clothing.

Because of the trademark requests, Jason Bonham was asked to change the name of his band from “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience” to “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening.”

Back in February, Zep guitarist Jimmy Page told Planet Rock magazine, “There’s a lot of [live recordings] to come out, a number of releases. I’d like to say that they’ll be coming out over the next 10 years. There’s more to come for sure.”

Led Zeppelin has a legendary following of fans who collect the band’s bootlegged concerts, and there have been rumors for years that the band was seeking to establish an official outlet for its archived live shows.
