Watch Metallica’s James Hetfield recover from onstage fall during Amsterdam show

ABC/Randy HolmesMetallica nearly had a Dave Grohl situation on their hands when frontman James Hetfield fell onstage during the band’s show in Amsterdam Monday night.

While in the middle of playing the song “Now That We’re Dead,” Hetfield tripped and fell into a hole onstage, which opened up throughout the set for production elements. Two stagehands immediately ran to Hetfield to help him back up, and the musician was able to recover and finish the song.

“Yes, I’m OK,” Hetfield told the crowd after the song was done. “My ego, not so much.” You can watch fan-shot footage of the incident now on YouTube.

On the spectrum of Metallica’s onstage mishaps, Monday night’s incident ranks pretty low on the list, especially compared to when Heftfield suffered second and third-degree burns in 1992 when a pyro stunt went wrong.

Metallica is currently touring Europe in support of their new album Hardwired…to Self-Destruct. The outing will last all the way into May 2018.
