Credit: Dan HigginsEx-Yes guitarist Trevor Rabin is one of eight former or current members of the band who will be recognized when the prog-rock legends are inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame April 7 in Brooklyn, New York. Rabin tells ABC Radio he feels “really great” about the honor, while admitting he was somewhat surprised about it after Yes was passed over for induction multiple times.
“In the last three years [we’d] been nominated twice, so it wasn’t a surprise [to be nominated again this past year],” Rabin explains. “But what was a surprise was that we’re being inducted, because we felt, ‘Well, we’ve been nominated before but it [didn’t] happen.'”
Rabin currently is touring Europe with ARW, the spinoff group that also features fellow former Yes members Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. Trevor says he, Anderson and Wakeman have been working on some brand-new music, and are “getting very close to finishing the first couple of tracks.”
Rabin tells ABC Radio that ARW are talking about releasing those tracks as soon as they’re ready, “and then ultimately, once there’s a kind of comprehensive collection…stick it all together as one album.”
In concert, ARW has focused on playing classic Yes material from throughout the band’s long career. As for whether the band may add some of the new tracks to their sets, Rabin says, “We have so much fun rearranging and re-presenting the old music from the Fragile years and 90125 and onwards…So, with that in mind, I think we’re still very, very motivated to just play the stuff we’ve been playing.”
ARW’s European tour wraps up on March 28 in Utrecht, Netherlands. Then, after the Rock Hall induction ceremony, the band will play a series of late-April concerts in Japan.
