Capitol RecordsToday marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most celebrated albums in pop and rock history, The Beach BoysPet Sounds.

Pet Sounds, which features such classic Beach Boys tunes as “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Sloop John B” and “God Only Knows,” is lauded for the complex vocal and musical arrangements devised by Wilson and the quality of the songwriting throughout the record. Brian was inspired to record the album after hearing The BeatlesRubber Soul; in turn, Pet Sounds influenced the Fab Four’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

In an interview with ABC Radio, Brian Wilson said of Pet Sounds, “Of course I’m very proud of the album and I’m very, very proud of the audience reactions to the album.”

He added that it was probably the “best job” he ever did with the Beach Boys, musically.

To commemorate the anniversary, Wilson’s sonic masterpiece will be reissued on June 10, and will be available in various configurations, including a Collector’s Edition featuring four CDs and a Blu-ray Audio disc.
