Tedeschi Trucks Band‘s sixth annual residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre gets underway tonight, and the six-show run will include guest performances from two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers — Traffic‘s Dave Mason and Jefferson Airplane‘s Jorma Kaukonen. Mason will appear at this Tuesday’s concert, while Kaukonen’s performance is scheduled for Wednesday.
Tedeschi Trucks Band, which is led by ex-Allman Brothers Band slide-guitar whiz Derek Trucks and his wife, singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi, will be joined by Indigo Girls singer Amy Ray at tonight’s gig. The 12-piece collective will play two sets without an opener at the other three Beacon performances — this Saturday, October 1; Friday, October 7; and Saturday, October 8.
Meanwhile, the group has a wide variety of other U.S. shows on their U.S. tour itinerary, which is mapped out all the way through a March 2-4, 2017, engagement at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Kaukonen also is scheduled to open for the group on December 1 at Boston’s Orpheum Theater, while Ray will support the band the following night at the same venue. Various other artists also are scheduled to open for Tedeschi Trucks at select shows, including Leon Russell, former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Jack Pearson and the late Levon Helm‘s daughter Amy and her group, The Handsome Strangers.
