“We’ve been working with someone — I don’t want to name names yet — and we’re making music,” bassist Robert DeLeo tells Rolling Stone. “I don’t know if he’s well-known or unknown; I don’t look at him as ‘well-known.’ But we’re writing music and we’re hopefully looking at finishing a record and putting it out soon.”

Scott Weiland originally fronted STP, and remained with the band until they broke up in 2002. They reunited in 2008, but Weiland was dismissed from the group in 2013 and died in December 2015.

After Weiland left the band, Chester Bennington handled lead vocals in STP before he parted ways with the group in November 2015 to focus on Linkin Park. Bennington passed away this past July.

Stone Temple Pilots’ 25th anniversary reissue of their 1992 debut album, Core, is out now.
