Credit: Marc HauserJohn Mellencamp will be bringing his Sad Clowns & Hillbillies Tour north of the border this fall. The Canadian trek, which currently features 23 confirmed dates, kicks off September 26 in Moncton, New Brunswick, and is mapped out through a November 14 show in the Vancouver suburb of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
The tour, which will promote the veteran roots rocker’s 2017 studio album, Sad Clowns & Hillbillies, also will visit such major cities as Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Saskatoon.
Tickets for the new dates will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m. local time. Pre-sale tickets for Mellencamp.com members and VIP packages will be available beginning this Wednesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. local time.
Released in April of 2017, Sad Clowns & Hillbillies features a variety of duets with country singer Carlene Carter, the stepdaughter of the late Johnny Cash and daughter of his late wife, June Carter Cash. The album also includes a duet with country star Martina McBride.
In other news, Mellencamp has written the title song for a new movie titled The Yellow Birds, which gets its theatrical release on June 15. The film, which is based on the Kevin Powers novel of the same name about a pair of American soldiers during the Iraq War, stars Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jennifer Aniston, Toni Collette and Jack Huston.
Earlier this month, the new Mellencamp concert film and documentary Plain Spoken: From the Chicago Theatre was released as a DVD/CD and a Blu-ray/CD set, and on digital formats. The movie focuses on an October 2016 performance that John gave in the Windy City, and also includes narration from the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.
