The Who‘s Pete Townshend has offered up another update about how things are progressing as the band continues work on its upcoming studio album. In the latest blog, posted on TheWho.com, Townshend reports that singer Roger Daltrey “has started working on vocals in a studio near his home.”
Assisting Daltrey is longtime Who sound engineer Bob Pridden. Pete says he’s hoping to get Roger to post video footage from the studio sessions, “or at least a ‘hello’ for you all.”
Townshend also reveals that The Who will be heading back in the studio next week — at a different facility than the one he, drummer Zak Starkey and bassist Pino Palladino used for the initial sessions earlier this month. Pete says producer Dave Sardy will be returning to London this Monday from Los Angeles, where he’s been working on a project with ex-Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher. Roger did not take part in the previous sessions.
In previous posts, Pete posted video of himself, Starkey and Palladino laying down tracks at British Grove Studios in London, with Sardy overseeing the sessions.
After the last day of those sessions, Townshend reported, “We managed to complete drums and bass overdubs on seven songs in as many days.”
