Emersongs/Cherry Red RecordsA newly remastered version of late Emerson, Lake and Palmer keyboardist Keith Emerson‘s long-out-of-print 2002 solo album Emerson Plays Emerson has just been reissued on CD and as a digital download. The 22-track collection features solo piano renditions of a variety of compositions by the prog-rock virtuoso, plus a few select covers, including the George Gershwin classic “Summertime.”

The reissue was overseen by members of Keith’s family, and was produced using a fresh transfer from the master tapes.

“Since the passing of my father, we have been inundated with requests for a reissue of the album Emerson Plays Emerson,” says Keith’s oldest son, Aaron, in a statement. “This album was a labor of love for Dad, so we decided to go with the original artwork to stay as true to the original as possible as we understand how happy Dad was with it. I know he would be happy with this reissue.”

The Emerson family also is preparing to approve a music book of transcriptions of the album’s songs that’s due out in early 2018.

Keith died in March 2016 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 71.
