The folk-influenced rock tune seemingly finds the legendary singer/songwriter musing about the experience of being an aging rock star.

“Rock ‘n’ roll cowboys on the old wagon train/ You had your time but it won’t come again,” sings Ray. “You rode the prairie and you always stood proud/ So tall in the saddle and your head was not bowed.”

As previously reported, Americana will be released on April 21, and is a companion piece to Davies’ 2013 memoir of the same name. The album features 15 songs, as well as spoken-word interludes of Ray reading passages from his book. The veteran U.S. roots-rock group The Jayhawks backed Davies on the record.

Another song from Americana called “Poetry” premiered last month on Ray’s VEVO YouTube channel.
