The nominees for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 were announced Thursday and among the artists in the running are The Moody Blues. While many music fans have long felt that the British group was a worthy candidate for induction, this marks the first time that The Moodies have appeared on the ballot since becoming eligible in 1989.
Moody Blues singer/bassist John Lodge tells ABC Radio that he considers the nomination to be “a great honor…because it’s other people…coming up and really acknowledging your work.”
He adds, “I think for anyone who’s trying to be focused, if you find someone who appreciates what you’re doing, it really does make you feel good.”
As for why he thinks The Moody Blues finally received a nomination after being passed over for so long, Lodge says he has “no idea,” while noting that it’s not something he dwells on.
“I spent my life playing bass, writing songs, and trying to be a driving force, so I’ve never, ever thought really about any of the accolades that came along with it,” the 72-year-old rocker maintains.
Asked whom he’d like to induct The Moodies if the band gets the call, Lodge suggests director Quentin Tarantino — a big fan of the group whose movies he loves — and radio and TV personality Howard Stern, who John says “has been a really big supporter of The Moody Blues forever.”
The Moody Blues’ nomination comes as the band is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its classic symphonic-rock concept album Days of Future Passed. The group recently announced a run of January 2018 dates as part of a tour commemorating the milestone that launched this past June.
The 2018 Rock Hall inductees will be announced in early December.
