Additionally, several other rock artists will be in attendance to help Metallica celebrate their achievement. Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and bassist Roger Glover will read an introductory speech, while members of Ghost and fellow Swedish band Candlemass will perform together.  You may remember that Ulrich inducted Deep Purple into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Additionally, ex-Motorhead and current Scorpions drummer Mikkey Dee, a Swedish native, will perform a new song he wrote with Dennis Lyxzén of the Swedish punk band Refused.

In naming Metallica a recipient of the Polar Music Prize back in February, the award committee commented, “Through virtuoso ensemble playing and its use of extremely accelerated tempos, Metallica has taken rock music to places it had never been before.”

As a Polar Music Prize winnewr, Metallica will be awarded one million Swedish kronor, which currently amounts to about $113,000. The band will donate their winnings to their All Within My Hands charitable foundation.

Previous Polar Music Prize winners include Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney, among others.
