Just in time for their summer tour, Loverboy is releasing a new single, “Hurtin’.”
The song sprung from a concept by Pat Benatar bassist Mick Mahan and collaborator Gregg Montane. Originally intended as a theme for a national football broadcast, the song found its way to guitarist Paul Dean and Loverboy singer Mike Reno.
“I took what they gave him, changed it up a bit, and came up with a melody and a couple of hooks,” said Dean. “The idea was to create an anthem for the home crowd to sing about putting a ‘hurtin’ ” on the other team.”
To get fans pumped, the band released a new lyric video on YouTube.
The tour, which includes three dates with Rick Springfield, kicks off May 28 at Diamond Jack’s Hotel & Casino in Bossier City, Louisiana. The full listing of dates is available on the band’s website.
