Entertainment Tonight visited with Fogerty and Paisley while they were making the video, and Brad explained that he wanted to make a statement about how the U.S. treats its servicemen and servicewomen, and thought John’s experiences during the Vietnam era made him the perfect collaborator for the song.

“I wasn’t shipped to Vietnam, but certainly being the same age and the same and the same end zone, possibly, I had my eye on that all the way through,” said Fogerty, who served in the Army Reserves during the 1960s.  He added, “We send people off do this great service for us and possibly die, but when they come home, we don’t treat them very well. That’s what we wanted to express in the song — we need to do something about that.”

Paisley told Entertainment Tonight that he thinks the song’s message is, “‘We can do better.’ We can do a lot better when it comes to taking care of veterans. I don’t think there’s anyone who would disagree with that…It feels like we should be giving these people the moon! They should be getting anything they need from us.”

You can check out the “Love and War video now at Paisley’s official Facebook page. Accompanying the clip is a note from Brad that reads, “One of the more important things I’ve ever said and I’m so honored to say it with John Fogerty.”
