Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin is unable to attend The Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Awards this weekend on “doctor’s orders.”
“I am grateful for the beautiful musical journey my life continues to take,” Marty Balin said in a statement. “To all my fellow Jefferson Airplane Band members, through its various metamorphoses, I thank you for a dream come true. It was the exchange of our mixed passions and the love from our fans that led us to this celebratory Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Balin said he is doing well, and plans to resume tour dates in the future. He most recently released two albums, the career retrospective Good Memories and The Greatest Love, featuring all new material.
