As host Stephen Colbert stood in front of the band ready to introduce them, he was interrupted by the appearance of “God.” An animated likeness, with flowing white beard and robes, appeared in the cathedral-like ceiling and asked if he could introduce them. Colbert said yes, so “He” did.

The five-time Grammy winners were introduced as “God’s favorite band” then went right into their number one song, “Still Breathing,” the second single from Revolution Radio, their twelfth studio album. The song is also second number one from the album, after “Bang Bang.”

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool, were supported by additional guitarist Jason White and keyboardist Jason Freese, the younger brother of drummer Josh Freese.

Green Day is currently touring North America behind Revolution Radio.

The band is finishing up some US dates before heading to Australia and New Zealand at the end of April.

They will return to play a number of stadium and arena dates this summer, starting in August.
