Green Day has “officially landed on Mars,” thanks to NASA

ABC/Heidi GutmanDavid Bowie once famously asked if there’s life on Mars. While that question still hasn’t been answered, we do know now that Green Day is on Mars. Well, sort of.

On Monday, NASA’s InSight spacecraft landed on Mars. Apparently, the mechanical three-legged, one-armed mining vessel included a chip etched with the phrase “Green Day Since 1986,” a reference to the year the band was founded.

“Officially landed on Mars,” Green Day tweeted alongside a photo of the chip. “Out of this world.”

InSight launched in May 2018 and traveled over 300 million miles before touching down on the red planet Monday. It marks the first attempt by an American spacecraft to visit Mars since 2012.
