ABC/Randy HolmesElton John took the stage with Prince Harry today at the 2016 International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa. The two spoke on a panel about the needs of youth living with HIV and discussed ways to help prevent the disease among young people.
“Africa’s youth has grown up in the shadow of AIDS,” Elton said, addressing the young people in the audience. “It’s time to see a new form of freedom.”
He added, “People of my generation all over the world have engaged in big and small ways to help turn the tide of AIDS. Let it be remembered that you and young people here and around the world joined forces and became the generation that finally made AIDS history. You are the future, not just for AIDS, you’re the future of this planet and boy, do we need you.”
Elton is the founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars to combat AIDS, and offers treatment and support to those affected by the disease.
