Michael Collopy/Donovan Discs 2016British folk-rock great Donovan has added several dates to his recently announced North American tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of his chart-topping psychedelic-pop gem “Sunshine Superman.” More than 20 concerts have been scheduled for the trek, which kicks off with an August 30 performance in East Hampton, New York, and is plotted out through an October 21 show in Toronto.

Near the beginning of the tour, the 70-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be honored by the city of Los Angeles, which will declare September 3 to be “Donovan Day.” The date coincides with the 50th anniversary of “Sunshine Superman” hitting #1 in the U.S. Donovan will visit L.A.’s City Hall on the morning of September 2 to take part in a special proclamation ceremony and press conference in conjunction with the honor.

As previously reported, a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales to the singer/songwriter’s concerts will benefit Donovan Children’s Fund, a division of the David Lynch Foundation, which provides Transcendental Meditation education programs to at-risk students around the U.S.

With regard to the trek, Donovan says, “I celebrate my 50th year in music to reaffirm my poet’s role to unite us with our deeper conscious Self. My Sunshine Superman album led the way to establish the need for the journey within and [Transcendental] Meditation the way to go. My worldwide tour continues this work.”
