Courtesy of Live Nation EntertainmentSure to be one of the summer’s biggest music extravaganzas, The Rock Hall Three for All tour, featuring Heart, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Cheap Trick, gets underway tonight in Clarkston, Michigan. The title of the trek refers to the fact that all three bands have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall  Fame:  Heart in 2013, Jett & the Blackhearts last year and Cheap Trick in April of this year.

Cheap Trick singer Robin Zander says he thinks the tour is “very cool,” particularly because he and his band go way back with both Jett and Heart, having played shows with both groups numerous times since the 1970s.

At a recent Rock Hall-related event, Zander told ABC Radio, “I’ve known Joanie since she was 14 years old, and I remember a show we did at the Royal Oak Theatre [near Detroit.] It was [Jett’s old band] Runaways headlining, Cheap Trick second and third was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. So, you know…I’ve known her for a long time. I love Joanie.”

Cheap Trick most recently toured with Heart in 2008, while Zander pointed out to ABC Radio that he and that band’s frontwomen, Ann Wilson, also collaborated on a big hit from the soundtrack to the 1988 film Tequila Sunrise, “Surrender to Me,” which reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Robin added, jokingly, that he’s “even been to Wilson’s house!” (ROBIN ZANDER AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)
