Credit: Blaine ClausenZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons will compete for two honors at the 40th annual Blues Music Awards, scheduled for May 9 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer received a nomination for the Blues Rock Artist trophy, while his latest solo album, The Big Bad Blues, is in the running for the Blues Rock Album prize.
Other musicians vying for the Blues Rock Artist award include Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Blues legend Buddy Guy also received two nods. His latest album, The Blues Is Alive and Well, is up for the Traditional Blues Album honor, while his song “Cognac,” which he co-wrote with Tom Hambridge and Richard Fleming, is a Song of the Year nominee. It’s worth noting that “Cognac” features Guy trading guitar licks with Keith Richards and Jeff Beck.
Other artists nominated for Blues Music Awards this year include Fabulous Thunderbirds frontman Kim Wilson, who will compete for the Instrumentalist — Harmonica prize, and frequent Beck collaborator Beth Hart, who will be looking to take home the Instrumentalist — Vocalist trophy.
The most-nominated artist this year is Boston-based keyboard whiz Anthony Geraci, who scored six nods.
