Shriners Hospitals for ChildrenForeigner has released a new version of its classic 1984 ballad “I Want to Know What Love Is,” featuring backing vocals by a choir made up of patients from Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The song is available now as a digital single and via streaming services, and also will appear on the forthcoming album Foreigner Live in Concert, which is due out on February 15.

All proceeds raised by the track and the album will be donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children, a nonprofit that provides advanced care for kids with various health issues.

An official video for the new rendition of “I Want to Know What Love Is” can be viewed now at Foreigner’s official YouTube channel. The clip follows the band’s current frontman, Kelly Hansen, as he takes a walk during which he faces some minor inconveniences, before coming upon a group of Shriners Hospitals patients playing a game of basketball.

Hansen joins in the game, then enters the nearby Shriners facility with one of the children and observes various patients interacting and receiving treatment. Interspersed with those scenes is footage of Hansen and Foreigner founder Mick Jones performing the song with a group of kids from Shriners Hospitals.

“There is a spiritual undertone to ‘I Want to Know What Love Is,’ and when you apply the lyrics to a cause like Shriners Hospitals for Children, it brings a whole new meaning to the song,” says Jones, who wrote the song.

Adds Hansen, “The lyrics of this song really speak to the qualities we’ve observed in the children here at Shriners Hospitals. The kids show this amazing resilience and happiness that really makes one think how powerful love is.”
