Courtesy of Jim Babjak ArchivesVeteran rockers The Smithereens will play a special benefit show on Saturday in Woodbridge, New Jersey, in honor of guitarist Jim Babjak‘s wife, Betty, who died of pancreatic cancer in February. The event, called “The Memorial Concert for Betty Babjak,” will feature a one-off reunion with the band’s original bass player, Mike Mesaros, who will play with the group for the first time in 11 years.

Proceeds from the show, which will take place at the Hungarian American Citizen’s Club, will help the Babjak family defray the cost of Betty’s medical expenses, and also will fund a scholarship for a Rutgers University student with a parent who also died from pancreatic cancer.

The concert also will include a reunion performance by Jim Babjak’s side project Buzzed Meg, as well as the debut set by Snowblind, a band featuring the Babjaks’ son Tommy.

Tickets for the show cost $200, and the event includes a catered buffet dinner, an open bar with beer and wine, a commemorative beer cup and T-shirt, and the chance to win a Smithereens-themed bicycle.
