Credit: Ricky RedmanThe Moody Blues recently wrapped up a North American tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of their classic album Days of Future Passed, and now singer/bassist John Lodge says he’s getting ready to turn his focus to his solo career.
Lodge, whose latest solo album, 10,000 Light Years Ago, was released in 2015, tells ABC Radio he’s planning to put out a live DVD documenting one of the 2016 U.K. concerts he played in support of the record this fall.
“The last concert I did in England was at Birmingham Town Hall. And Birmingham is where I came from, and I said to my agent, ‘I want to finish the tour in Birmingham, just to say thank you because that’s where I started,'” Lodge explains. “And I recorded that concert, filmed it, and we’re just actually finalizing the release of that DVD.”
In addition, the 72-year-old rocker says that when the DVD is released, “I’d like to come to America and perform 10,000 Light Years Ago to an audience.”
Lodge’s Birmingham concert took place on September 30, 2016, and was the last of a series of U.K. gigs he played that month. His only U.S. shows in support of 10,000 Light Years Ago were a trio of Florida events in February that led up to his performances in this year’s edition of the Yes-headlined Cruise to the Edge fan cruise.
John tells ABC Radio that besides getting to play songs from his latest solo effort, the concerts give him the chance to perform Moody Blues tunes that he’s “never played before” live.
10,000 Light Years Ago was Lodge’s first solo album since 1977’s Natural Avenue.
Meanwhile, John’s Moody Blues band mate Justin Hayward will kick off a new U.K. solo tour on September 18.
