The former Police frontman will be presented with The American Music Award of Merit, which recognizes his exceptional contributions to the music industry.

Sting also will take the stage at the ceremony to perform a medley of songs, including his latest single, “I Can’t Stop Thinking About You,” and a selection of some of his best-known tunes. It’ll mark the first time he’s ever performed at the awards show.

The merit award was last given to Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox in 2008. Other previous recipients include Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, Prince, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson.

“I Can’t Stop Thinking About You” will appear on Sting’s forthcoming solo album, 57th & 9th, which will be released on November 11.
