Right place, right time: Dr. John taking part in new leg of The Last Waltz 40 tribute tour

1198

Blackbird PresentsThe Last Waltz 40 Tour, the tribute trek celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Band‘s historic 1976 farewell concert, wrapped up early last month, but now an additional leg of dates has been scheduled due to “overwhelming demand.” The new series of shows, which gets underway March 30 in Grand Prairie, Texas, will feature a slightly different lineup than the tek’s first leg, with New Orleans legend Dr. John taking the place of ex-Doobie Brothers singer/keyboardist Michael McDonald.

Dr. John, of course, was among the many stars who performed alongside The Band at the original Last Waltz concert, which was held November 25, 1976, at San Francisco’s Winterland venue. Other musicians who will be performing on the upcoming Last Waltz 40 Tour dates include ex-Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes, acclaimed producer/bassist Don Was, country artist Jamey Johnson and Dirty Dozen Brass Band drummer Terence Higgins. In addition, Cyril Neville of The Neville Brothers and Dave Malone of The Radiators will serve as special guests during the trek, which is plotted out through an April 15 in San Francisco.

Tickets for the newly announced concerts will go on sale Friday, March 3 at 10 a.m. ET at LastWaltz40Tour.com.
