Prince Harry once visited Dave Grohl in the hospital, slapped Taylor Hawkins

ABC/Travis BellAs one of the biggest bands on the planet, Foo Fighters have come in contact with royalty on several occasions. For example, both Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins have met England’s Prince Harry, although they had very different experiences.

As Grohl tells BBC Breakfast, Harry was one of the first people to visit him after his surgery to repair his broken leg in 2015. Not only that, the Prince brought gifts.

“He brought me this little pillow to my iPad on while I was in recovery,” Grohl says. “He is the sweetest. I owe you a text, Harry.”

Harry also helped Hawkins recover from an ailment, albeit in a much less gentler way. Hawkins met the Prince backstage right before Foo Fighters were about to play a show, and the drummer was feeling the effects of jet lag.

“We were getting ready to walk on stage, and I was tired and so jet-lagged,” Hawkins remembers. So what did Harry do? Slap him, of course.

“I was like ‘what was that?'” Hawkins says. “It was great, it was funny.”

“I wore that slap with pride,” he adds.

In related Foo Fighters-in-the-U.K. news, the band headlined London’s O2 Arena Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the show was marred by a bit of controversy — the BBC reports that hundreds of fans were turned away from the venue because they bought tickets from secondary markets.

In a joint statement, Foo Fighters, the O2 and promoter SJM say they are “frustrated and saddened that despite their best efforts, tickets for last night’s show at the O2 fell into the hands of unscrupulous secondary ticket agencies.”

“Unfortunately, this meant a small number of fans purchasing bogus tickets from these unscrupulous outlets did not get into the sold out show,” the statement reads.
