Kevin Mazur/WireImagePearl Jam will be in attendance at the Seattle premiere of Gleason, a documentary that follows former NFL player Steve Gleason‘s battle with ALS. The premiere will be held this Thursday, July 28 at Seattle’s AMC Pacific Place theater. Visit GleasonTickets.com for ticket info.

Gleason played defensive back for the New Orleans Saints for eight seasons before retiring in 2007. He’s best known for blocking a punt against the Atlanta Falcons during the Saints’ first home game after Hurricane Katrina. Gleason was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2011.

As for how Pearl Jam figures into this story, Gleason, who’s originally from Spokane, Washington, is a long-time friend of guitarist Mike McCready. Leading up to the release of Pearl Jam’s Lightning Bolt, Gleason interviewed the band for a documentary about the album. Additionally, the Gleason movie trailer features Pearl Jam’s song “Given to Fly.”

Following the Gleason screening, Pearl Jam will continue their summer tour on August 5 at Boston’s Fenway Park.
