Courtesy of Long Island Music Hall of FameMeat Loaf collaborator Jim Steinman and late Blue Öyster Cult songwriter/producer Sandy Pearlman have joined the list of luminaries who will be inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame at a ceremony taking place Thursday, November 3, in Westbury, New York.
Steinman is best known for writing all of the songs on Meat Loaf’s classic albums Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, as well as such hits as Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” and Celine Dion‘s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” Pearlman, who died in July, helped found Blue Öyster Cult, produced most of the band’s albums and co-wrote many songs for the group. He also produced albums by The Clash and The Dictators.
In addition, E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt will be presented with the 2016 Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award, a bi-annual honor that recognizes people involved with significant humanitarian causes on Long Island, New York. Van Zandt has been chosen to receive the award because of his support for music education programs, including his Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, which prepares rock-music history classes for use in middle schools and high schools.
Other 2016 Long Island Music Hall of Fame inductees include rock-guitar whiz Steve Vai, singer/songwriter Garland Jeffries, early rock ‘n’ roll duo Santo & Johnny and hip-hop star Big Daddy Kane.
A number of well-known artists also will serve as presenters at this year’s ceremony, including The Rascals‘ Eddie Brigati, David Johansen and Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye.
