“It was a very upsetting day to hear about my dear friend Fats,” writes Lewis. “We spent many good times together, from rockin’ on the road to spending time in each other’s homes for a good downhome country dinner. We’re both piano players from Louisiana. I love him, and now I miss him.”
With the death of Fats, the 82-year-old Jerry Lee is now one of only three musicians from the inaugural 1986 class of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees who are still alive. The others are Little Richard and The Everly Brothers‘ Don Everly.
In other news, a special “second line” musical parade honoring Domino is being planned for this Wednesday, November 1, in his hometown of New Orleans, NOLA.com reports. The parade will be led by trumpeter James Andrews and will starting at 5 p.m. local time. The line will begin at Vaughan’s Lounge in the city’s Bywater neighborhood and will end at Domino’s former residence on Caffin Ave. in New Orleans Ninth Ward.
