Robert Knight Archive/RedfernsLorna Doom, bassist for the ’70s punk band the Germs, has died. The group’s drummer Don Bolles confirmed the news in a Facebook post, writing that Doom “left this mortal coil” Wednesday.

Born Teresa Ryan, Doom joined the Germs in 1976 alongside lead singer Jan Paul Beahm, aka Darby Crash, and guitarist Georg Ruthenberg, now known as former Nirvana touring member and current Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear. At one point, the band also included future The Go-Go‘s frontwoman Belinda Carlile.

Considered a staple of the Los Angeles punk scene and an influence on future punk bands, the Germs released one album, 1979’s (GI), which was produced by Joan Jett.

The Germs disbanded in 1980, and Crash died by suicide later that year. The group reformed in 2005 with actor Shane West, who had been cast to play Crash in a biopic titled What We Do Is Secret, on lead vocals. Doom was played by Bijou Phillips in the film.
