While he’s been busy supporting other artists in recent years, Sancious now is turning his attention to his solo career, and is preparing to release a new album titled Eyes Wide Open.

To promote and fund the record, David has launched a PledgeMusic campaign that will offer his fans and supporters a variety of perks.

“I’m about to put out my ninth album,” Sancious says in a new YouTube video focusing on Eyes Wide Open and the crowd-funding initiative. “[I]t’s a project that started life one way, as a completely instrumental album, and as things developed it sort of took on a second life as partially a vocal album…with me for the first time singing vocals on my project.”

Among the musicians featured on the album are respected drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, with whom David played in Sting’s backing group, and bassist Sonny Thompson and drummer Michael Bland, who were members of the late Prince‘s New Power Generation.

Sancious says Eyes Wide Open will be a diverse collection of songs, noting in the video that he comes “from the ’50s and ’60s, [which] was a super-creative time…when people were sort of crossing boundaries musically and people were using their musical influence to come up with something new.”

The album will be available on CD, as a 180-gram vinyl LP and digitally. All people who contribute pledges will receive a high-quality download of the record. Among the many perks available are exclusive t-shirts, photos and posters of Sancious with various famous collaborators, handwritten notes and lyric sheets, VIP concert and studio experiences, and more.
