ABC/Randy Holmes; Henry DiltzThe nominees have been announced for the 2018 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, which honor “musical excellence in visual media,” and among the rock artists who will be competing for trophies are Elton John, David Crosby, Patti Smith and Annie Lennox.

Elton and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin received a nod in the Original Song — Animated Film category for “Stronger Than I Ever Was,” a tune they wrote for the movie Sherlock Gnomes that was performed by Mary J. Blige.

Crosby and Lennox both will vie for the Original Song — Independent Film honor. Crosby nod is for “Home Free,” a tune he wrote and performed that’s featured in the film Little Pink House. Lennox’s nomination is for “Requiem for a Private War,” a song that the Eurythmics singer penned and sang that appears in the flick A Private War.

Smith is in the running for the Original Song — Documentary award for “These Are the Words,” a song she co-wrote that was featured in Pope Francis: A Man of His Word.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters will be presented with the pre-announced Live Concert for Visual Media prize for their performance on PBS’ Landmarks Live in Concert special.

This year’s Hollywood Music in Media Awards will be held November 14 at The Avalon in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds raised by the event will go to support music education.
