Artwork created by Bob MasseHopes for a Cream reunion ended when singer/bassist Jack Bruce died in October 2014, but perhaps this is the next best thing. A 50th anniversary tribute tour of North America featuring musicians related to the band’s three members — Bruce, drummer Ginger Baker and guitarist Eric Clapton — will take place this fall.
The Music of Cream: 50th Anniversary World Tour, which previously visited Australia and New Zealand last year, launches a North American leg September 28 in Ottawa, Canada. The group is made up of Bruce’s son, Malcolm, on bass and vocals, Baker’s son Kofi on drums, and guitarist Will Johns, who’s the son of Paula Boyd, sister of Clapton’s ex-wife, Pattie Boyd.
The trek will visit venues in the Eastern and Midwestern U.S. and Eastern Canada, and will wind down November 16 in Cincinnati.
The concerts will feature performances of many classic Cream songs, as well as a multimedia presentation offering previously unseen footage and rare photos of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame trio. In addition, the musicians will share recollections about their famous family members.
“We had such an amazing response to our first tour in Australia and New Zealand that we’ve spent some considerable time adding to the show,” Malcolm Bruce reveals. “Now, we not only have this amazing legacy of music to play, but an opportunity to share some wonderful insights and stories with our audience…a backstage pass like no other, if you will.”
Adds, Kofi Baker, “We also have a few surprises in store that we know people are going to really respond to.”
